Dr Bindu is a fully qualified breast and general surgeon who delivers compassionate and affordable care on an array of breast and general surgical problems. 


Dr Bindu has her surgical training and professional degrees obtained from Overseas as well as Australia.  She has a special interest and passion for breast problems and women health.


Dr Bindu is a full member of the Breast Society BreastSurgANZ and offers oncoplastic breast surgery which focuses on treating breast cancer but at the same time giving the patient the best possible aesthetic outcome.

Professional background

Hails from India, born in a family of teachers, Bindu studied in public school and was drawn into the career in medicine from an early age. At the age of 15 she started receiving merit scholarships to support her studies. 


Bindu obtained her primary medical degree (MBBS) from Govt Medical College, Calicut University, Kerala. She underwent surgical training (MS) at the Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, which is one of the oldest and largest public hospitals in Asia. 


After completing her MS, she moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and worked as Specialist Surgeon at Mafraq Hospital, which is one of the largest tertiary public hospitals in UAE.  During this period, she went through the fellowship program of Glasgow, UK and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (FRCS).


After migrating to Australia in 2008, she completed the general surgical fellowship program (FRACS). As part of the fellowship program, she worked in all major public hospitals in Western Australia.  She developed particular interest towards Breast problems and did two years of post-fellowship training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery by BreastSurgANZ at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth. She is a full member of BreastSurgANZ.


Dr Bindu had undergone extensive advanced hands-on training on Oncoplastic Breast Surgery during her fellowship training in Australia. She keeps herself upskilled by regularly attending national and international Conferences and Workshops in General Surgery and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery.


Post Graduate Training

Dr Bindu has been trained in laparoscopic surgery, and her additional qualifications and training include:

  • Diploma in Laparoscopic surgery from Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg
  • Advanced training in Laparoscopy GEM institute of laparoscopic surgery, India
  • Training in ultrasound for Trauma (FAST)
  • Training in ultrasound for breast


Scope of practice

Dr Bindu practices at Peel Health Campus (Public and Private), St John of God Murdoch Hospital (Private) and Hollywood Hospital (Private).


Breast Surgery

Breast surgical services include:

  • Breast cancer care - Surgery and adjuvant treatment in collaboration with Breast Multidisciplinary Team at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Genesis Cancer Centre at Mandurah and St John of God Murdoch Hospital.
  • Breast cosmetic and oncoplastic surgery - As part of breast cancer treatment and selected cases of non-cancer patients. Provides breast remodelling, mammoplasty, breast reduction, breast augmentation and mastopexy(breast lift) 
  • Breast reconstruction - Offers implant-based reconstruction after skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy. Autologous tissue-based reconstruction with Plastic surgery team.
  • Benign breast diseases - Breast lumps, breast pain, nipple discharge etc.
  • Breast Cancer Risk and Prevention - Management of patients at high risk of developing breast cancer and breast cancer risk reduction.
  • Breast implant removal - Ruptured or intact placed for augmentation.
  • Male breast problems - Include the gynaecomastia and cancers.


General Surgery

General surgical services include:

  • Open and laparoscopic procedure for Gallbladder, Hernia(Ventral, inguinal, femoral, incisional)
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome, vasectomy, lipoma 
  • Anal Surgery - Haemorrhoids, Fissure, fistula  and abscesses
  • Cysts and skin lesions


Philosophy

As the mother of three young children, Dr Bindu has a firm conviction that healthy women are the cornerstone of healthy families and healthy societies. 


Dr Bindu believes specialist care, Breast Cancer treatments, in particular, should be affordable for every Australian Woman. 


Being a bulk billing specialist for consultations and procedures, she takes pride in providing quality Breast Cancer treatments to the community without burning their pockets.


Research

In addition to the clinical work, Dr Bindu is also active in Breast Cancer Research and is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trial Group (ANZBCT).


She is also passionate about training junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students from Curtin University.
